Design dimensions from stitch count
Enter your pattern's stitch count and fabric count to calculate the finished design size and how much fabric to cut.
Stitch count
Stitch over
Extra fabric around the design for framing/finishing. Typically 3″.
Always add margin — 3 inches per side minimum, 4 if you're using a scroll frame or Q-snap. The most common mistake is cutting too close to the design area and running out of fabric to grip or frame. You can always trim excess. You can never add it back.
Higher count fabric means a smaller finished piece from the same pattern. Stitching over 2 on linen changes everything — 28-count linen over 2 gives you the same stitch density as 14-count Aida, just with that linen texture. The calculator handles count and over-2 math automatically and shows a comparison across multiple counts so you can decide before you buy.
If you're eyeing a higher count for finer detail, be honest about your lighting setup. Counts of 32 and above are gorgeous but can be tough on the eyes without a good daylight lamp. The calculator includes strand and needle recommendations for each count alongside the dimensions.
