Convert between DMC, Anchor, Cosmo, and more
Convert thread numbers between DMC, Anchor, Cosmo, Sullivans, J&P Coats, Madeira, and Aurifil.
Every brand uses different dye formulas and fiber blends, so no conversion is a perfect match. Always compare in natural light — what looks right under the fluorescent tubes at the craft store may be noticeably off at home. Some colors genuinely have no good equivalent in another brand. When that happens, blending one strand from each of two similar colors can get you closer than any single skein.
If you're switching brands for only some colors mid-project, stitch a small test area first. Thread thickness and sheen vary between brands — DMC has a subtle sheen while some Anchor colors run more matte. Mixing brands in adjacent stitches can create visible texture differences. When you can, keep all stitches of one color in the same brand.
Buy all your converted skeins at once from the same shop visit. Even within one brand, dye lots vary between batches. Getting everything from the same lot avoids subtle shifts you'll only notice when it's too late to fix.
